Long regarded as one of the most beautiful marathon tracks on the international calendar, Thomson Cherogony of Kenya set a Madrid Marathon record in winning the race in a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, 27 seconds Sunday. Ethiopian runner Desta Girma Tadese won the women’s event in 2:34:39 from compatriot Hadish Letay Negash in 2:34:58 and Justyna Bak of Poland who was third in a time of 2:37:52.The marathon is also well known for the warm welcome and enthusiastic support of the locals.
